Dipu Moni: Candidate pool to be formed for VC posts at universities

The Education Ministry has decided to form a pool of candidates from which the vacant posts of vice-chancellor (VC), pro-VC, and treasurer in the country’s universities (both public, private) will be filled.

The decision was taken at a virtual meeting on Sunday which was attended by Education Minister Dipu Moni.

She said: “The vacant posts of VCs in our universities will be filled from this candidate pool.”

As part of the initiative, she has urged public universities to send her ministry the names and CVs of their top and senior professors by August 31.

Meanwhile, she has also directed private universities to send the ministry their list of vacant posts for VC, pro-VC, and treasurer, by September 10. 

During the meeting, she warned private university authorities that legal action will be taken against those who do not comply with the ministry’s directives.

Currently, three public universities need VCs, and 25 need pro-VCs. 

As many as 19 private universities are yet to appoint VCs and 83 are in need of pro-VCs.
